Jonathan Brown is a journalist and screen-writer based in north London. This blog will look at and review independent cafes in London. This means no chains more than five outlets and nothing outside the M25.

The reviews will look at coffee, atmosphere, food, service and extras. As coffee and atmosphere are most important to me, they are rated out of five, then food is out of four and service and extras out of three, which gives a total out of 20.

At the end of the year, there will be awards for the best in each category and an overall winner.
